Novelists, polish up the first 50 pages of your unpublished manuscript by March 31 and enter the James River Writers Best Unpublished Novel Contest. There’s a $25 dollar entry fee that supports Richmond’s supportive network of writers, and you might just win the top award. The package includes a $500 prize, publication of an excerpt in the September issue of Richmond Magazine, a ticket to the annual James River Writers Conference, and feedback on the manuscript. Two additional finalists each receive $200. The contest is open to Virginia residents and students at Virginia colleges.
Poets, 2018 will be your turn as the Shann Palmer Poetry Contest cycles around again. Then in 2019, the organization will sponsor the Best Self-published Novel Contest to recognize the writing talents and entrepreneurial skills of independent authors.
