★ Celebrate Juneteenth and the refreshed Gainsboro Library this week

The well loved Gainsboro Library has had a refresh. This 100-year old institution was one of only four libraries in the south to serve Black patrons during segregation, and has served generations of neighbors and book lovers since first opening in the YMCA a century ago.

At its 15 Patton Avenue location, you can attend a ribbon cutting on June 15 at 9:15 AM. That kicks off a number of events:

★ June 15, 9:15 AM – Ribbon Cutting
★ June 17, 6 PM – Cafe Night Featuring McFadden & Friends
★ June 18, 10 AM – Gainsboro Revisited Walking Tour with Jordan Bell
★ June 24, 6 PM – Roanoke’s Black History in the 1940’s with Nelson Harris

Other Juneteenth events this week:
★ June 15 – Juneteenth event with the Harrison Museum online.
★ June 19, 10-5 – Juneteenth Celebrations at Roanoke County Public Libraries
★ June 19, 12-6 – Juneteenth Family Reunion, 1529 Carroll Ave. NW
